Drummer
2nd Canadian Regt. 'Congress's
Own'
Fort Ti., 20 July 1776
.
The
2nd Canadian Regiment was raised at large in 1776. Most of the men came
from Canada and Pennsylvania. The regiment was fully and well equipped
and was popularly known as "Congress's Own." The light company men wore
black leather caps as shown in the background. The drummer wears the colors
of the regiment, (brown and white) with facings reversed as was the custom
for drums and fifes of that period. The Regimental Cipher "C. 0. R." and
the motto "Pro Aris et Focis" appear on the drum shell, the leather caps,
and the canteens.
