In 1907 he drove this
V-8 powered cycle (268 cu.in., 40 HP) on a Florida beach at 136 miles per
hour and earned the title, "The fastest man alive". It was the fastest
speed achieved in history. (Note the drive shaft, ending at a bevel gear
at the rear wheel)
